First, went to one store, then another, and then finally to GAM. I asked if they had capers. I described them. The gentleman said no. So, I thanked him (because he was very courteous and had a great smile). I walked out. A police car was right in front of me waiting for the green light as I walked a few feet from the front door. Then, I heard the worker yelling for me to wait. I thought the police were going to think I was a thief escaping. Nope. But the worker had a bottle of very fine Spanish capers in his hand. I went back. Paid for the capers. Thanked him and left so gratified that I would have the last ingredient for my evening meal. The best place around.

I went to this market and walked around. I saw the beloved yogurt drink. I had two pieces of baklava. It was fun to visit the store because it had some other items. Corner kick.

This market is my neighborhood corner store (as in almost right across the street from my house) but I don't think that I'm biased in loving to shop here. Green Apple has all the essentials, they're perfect for a quick grocery run or when you realize you're missing one ingredient in the middle of cooking dinner or baking cookies. They have a pretty good variety of products too. The guys that work there are all really nice and pleasant to interact with and they even take suggestions for items to stock. I asked for a certain brand of almond milk one time and they told me they would have it next time. I thought they might be joking, but lo and behold the next time I went they had the exact almond milk I wanted! Tips and Tricks -They have a lot of halal products and even halal meats -Was able to find flour here even after quarantine!

I had another store in mind before I gave Yelp a quick consult: I needed halal meat for tacos I was planning to make for little one's birthday party. The name of this market was familiar though it's not the old Green Apple supermarket that used to be located 10-12 blocks farther up Polk in Russian Hill (I really liked that market, too). When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by Mohammed. The market is small but well-stocked. While I was very directional in my purchase, I noticed the meat case looked very clean - and the ground beef I ordered was fresh (and tasted great after I prepared it). Prices were reasonable. I grabbed a couple of cucumbers and a bagged a good number of Roma tomatoes. Green Apple is a gem of a market- a great place to buy freshly butchered halal meat. It's centrally located in a semi-scruffy block and parking is best on the small alley (Cedar) that's immediately adjacent, off Polk. Bring quarters for meters.
